Church planting in the modern culture

copy-1-of-jones-300x190Församlingsfakulteten (the Lutheran School of Theology) is happy to announce a workshop on church planting March 14-15. The main speaker is bishop Philip Jones, Apostolic vicar in The Anglican Mission in Americas (The Mission).

In USA several parishes and even dioceses have left the more and more liberal Episcopal Church and are now part of an independent Anglican federation. The Mission is part of this federation, and bishops from Africa and Asia have assisted in ordaining bishops for the Mission. Church planting is, together with the proclamation of the Gospel, the most important to all mission work. In our times, when liberal theology causes congregations to wither and even die, it is a very important calling to plant new churches. Bishop Jones has long experience from working with Church planting and Church growth, and has also taught in the topic and trained parishes and pastors for the task. The contemporary cultures in North America and Northern Europe have similarities to a certain extent. We are convinced that we, in Europe, have something to learn from our friends in USA, despite the dissimilarities.

The Right Reverend Philip Jones is the Apostolic vicar in The Anglican Mission in Americas (The Mission). Bishop Jones was born and raised in Dallas. He practiced law in Waco, Texas, for seven years before he was called to the ministry. He has led churches in Marshall and El Paso, Texas in the Episcopal Church. In 2005, he left the Episcopal Church over crisis in faith and leadership and assumed leadership of church plant, St. Andrews’s Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 2010, he moved to Dallas to assist in church planting eventually serving as the founding pastor of All Saints, Dallas , which has grown exponentially in the last 4 years. He is married to Claudia Clinton Jones, and they have seven children and six grandchildren.
